  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • one 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • one 12-ounce can evaporated milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (for topping)
  • 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add ¾ cup sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, mix egg yolks with remaining sugar, then stir in whole milk and vanilla.
  4. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; gently fold into yolk mixture. Fold in egg whites until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into a greased 9×13 inch pan and bake for about 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. For the milk mixture, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whipping cream in a bowl.
  7. Poke holes in the cooled cake and pour the milk mixture evenly over the top. Let soak for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
  8. Whip heavy cream with confectioners' sugar until stiff peaks form and spread over the soaked cake.
