  • 200g sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 120g unsalted butter, softened
  • Juice and zest of 2 large oranges
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 100ml whole milk
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • 150g powdered sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and prepare a greased and floured 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the orange zest, juice, and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; gradually fold this into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Mix in whole milk and orange blossom water (if using) until smooth.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with freshly squeezed orange juice until smooth.
  9. Once cooled, transfer the cake to a wire rack and drizzle with orange glaze before serving.
