  • 1/2 cup sour cream (room temperature)
  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 6 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare three 6-inch cake pans by buttering and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. In another bowl, mix milk, sour cream, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Beat butter and sugar in a stand mixer until creamy. Gradually add egg whites while mixing on low speed.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk mixture to the butter mixture until just combined.
  6. Divide batter evenly among prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
