  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp distilled white vinegar
  • 2 cups cake flour, sifted

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 oz (2 tbsp) red food coloring, liquid or gel
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (optional)
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a 12-cup bundt pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 5-6 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then incorporate vanilla extract and white vinegar.
  4. In another bowl, sift together cake flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Combine buttermilk with red food coloring in a small bowl.
  6. Alternately mix the dry ingredients and the red buttermilk into the batter until fully incorporated.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 75-85 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  9. Cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. For optional glaze: Beat softened cream cheese until smooth, mix in powdered sugar and milk until desired consistency is reached.
