  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined; the dough will be soft and sticky.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Once chilled, scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Coat each ball generously in powdered sugar.
  8. Place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until set around the edges but still soft in the center.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 3 to 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
