Ingredients
Scale
2 1/4 teaspoons (7 grams) active dry yeast
3/4 cup (180 milliliters) lukewarm water (105-115ËšF (40-46ËšC))
4 cups (500 grams) all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (180 milliliters) lukewarm milk (105-115ËšF (40-46ËšC))
2 tablespoons (30 milliliters) sunflower or vegetable oil
Instructions
Activate the yeast by sprinkling it over lukewarm water in a small bowl and letting it sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
Gradually add the yeast mixture, lukewarm milk, and oil to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface until soft and elastic, then let it rise covered in a bowl until doubled in size (45 minutes to 1 hour).
After the first rise, punch down the dough and let it rise again for another 45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 480°F (250°C) and prepare baking sheets with oil.
Divide the risen dough into six pieces; shape each into balls and flatten them into discs.
Create decorative patterns on each disc using the spine of a knife.
Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown.
After baking, sprinkle with water and wrap in a towel to keep soft.
