Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups flour
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¼ cups cold unsalted butter, cut into slices
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 bars sweetened chocolate

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, water, milk, sugar, salt, yeast, and softened butter until combined. Knead gently until it forms a ball.
  2. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour.
  3. Prepare the cold butter layer; beat it between parchment paper until it’s a square about 7 inches thick.
  4. Roll out chilled dough into a square about 10 inches and enclose the butter layer within it. Seal by rolling gently.
  5. Refrigerate for another hour, then roll out into an elongated strip and perform three turns with chilling in between.
  6. Finally, roll out the dough again to cut rectangles, fill with chocolate pieces, roll tightly, and proof before baking at 400°F for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
