  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 (21 oz) can premium cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • Milk as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in almond and vanilla extracts.
  4. Gradually mix in flour and salt until just combined; reserve half of the dough for topping.
  5. Press half of the dough into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan evenly.
  6. Spread the cherry pie filling over the dough layer and dollop remaining dough on top.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden brown around the edges; allow cooling completely on a cooling rack.
  8. For glaze, mix confectioners’ sugar, almond extract, vanilla, and milk until smooth; drizzle over cooled bars before serving.
