Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternating with milk until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter between pans and smooth tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  8. For the caramel sauce: Combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat; stir until melted and simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  9. Once cakes have cooled, assemble by layering with caramel sauce between layers and on top.
